FUNDITEC's core mission is to foster business competitiveness and social prosperity by leveraging the power of technological innovation. The Foundation drives innovation across several specialized business units and research areas, which empower institutions and businesses. Since November 2021, FUNDITEC has been part of the official registry of Technological Centres of the Ministry of Science and Innovation in Spain.

FUNDITEC???s applied research and development (R&D&I) activities are concentrated in key technological pillars, which serve a wide array of industrial sectors.

I. Sciences and Advanced Materials

The Sciences unit is dedicated to improving society through interconnected areas, primarily Materials Research and Agri-food Research.

A. Advanced Materials Capabilities This area focuses on developing advanced materials and chemicals with novel or enhanced properties, prioritizing safety, sustainability, and circularity, essential for Europe???s green and digital transitions across health, energy, and sustainable industries.

• Product Development and Modification: Product development and design; improvement of material properties (e.g., adhesion, hardness, scratch resistance, hydrophobicity, antifouling, antimicrobial).
• Synthesis and Processing: Synthesis of small organic molecules, polymer and bio-polymer synthesis, sol-gel synthesis, and synthesis of molecules like MOFs (Metal-Organic Frameworks), COFs (Covalent-Organic Frameworks), porphyrins, polyamides, and inorganic molecules such as oxides of Ti, Zr, and Zn.
• Coatings and Printed Electronics: Development of various coatings (organic, inorganic, edible for the food industry), recubrimientos (resins and adhesives), and expertise in printed electronics, specifically Ink-jet printing of electrodes.
• Sustainability and Circular Economy: Focus on bio-based and sustainable green chemicals, process optimization, waste valorization, and pioneering projects like the recycling and recovery of polyurethane (RECIPOL project).

B. Agri-Food Research This research unit develops new knowledge and innovative solutions for the agrofood and bioeconomy sectors.

• Sustainable Agriculture: Enhancing sustainable practices in agriculture and forestry to support rural economies and increase yields.
• Food Chain Safety and Efficiency: Advancing the efficiency, safety, and sustainability of food production and distribution systems to address global food security challenges.
• Bioeconomy: Developing bio-based products and processes that leverage natural resources, reduce CO2 emissions, and promote a circular economy.
• Specific Technologies: Technology of micro and nanoencapsulation of ingredients, biodegradable, active, and intelligent plastics and containers, and electrochemical sensors for the detection of analytes and biomarkers.

II. Digital and Cybersecurity

FUNDITEC offers services and research that address the complexities of digital transformation, particularly in the realm of cybersecurity.

• Advanced Cybersecurity Services: Implementation of a customized, secure, and low-cost IoT (Internet of Things) ecosystem.
• Network Security Systems: Systems capable of anticipating attacks and carrying out the best possible response, often based on complex intrusion predictions.
• Risk Assessment: Solutions for the continuous and real-time evaluation of an organization's security risk level, aligned with internal processes.
• Data Security and Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT): Secure data generation with quantum native encryption, transportation, and storage using DLT for both permissioned and permissionless network architectures. The Energy research unit focuses on developing innovative bioenergy solutions and advanced energy systems to support a resilient, independent, and technologically advanced energy framework.

• Bioenergy Research: Development of scalable biofuel technologies using biotechnology to convert waste materials and biomass into renewable transportation and industrial fuels, including Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and Biomethane.
• Advanced Energy Systems: Research on next-generation energy technologies, driving innovation in production, storage, and intelligent distribution systems.
• Decarbonization Technologies: Pioneering CO2 capture technologies and transforming emissions into valuable energy sources and e-fuels to foster industrial decarbonization.
