FemTech Canada: A National Network for Women's Health Innovation
FemTech Canada is a national, non-profit organization and ecosystem hub dedicated to advancing the women's health technology (Femtech) sector in Canada. Operated by the business accelerator Innovation Factory, FemTech Canada's primary mission is to support and inspire entrepreneurs, researchers, and companies that are developing solutions for women's health.
The organization was founded to address the long-standing gaps in women's health, a field that has been historically under-researched, under-funded, and under-served. Its core function is to build and nurture a diverse, inclusive, and intersectional network that connects Femtech founders with the essential resources, visibility, and capital needed to succeed.

The organization has successfully built a community of over 170 Canadian Femtech companies.
Core Activities and Services
FemTech Canada is not a direct-to-consumer company; rather, it is a B2B and ecosystem-building entity. Its "products" and "services" are programs, resources, and platforms designed to support Femtech startups, connect stakeholders, and advocate for the industry's growth.
For Founders and Femtech Companies
FemTech Canada provides a "founder-first" support system through several key offerings:
- Business Advisory and Mentorship: The organization provides startups with crucial business advisory support, training, and mentorship, including specific guidance on fundraising and navigating the unique challenges of the Femtech sector.
- Community and Networking: At the heart of its services is a vibrant online community, including a Slack channel and a member directory. This network connects founders with peers, industry partners, investors, healthcare professionals, and accelerators, fostering collaboration and peer-to-peer support.
- Events and Working Groups: FemTech Canada regularly hosts events such as bi-monthly Femtech Roundtables and monthly founder working groups. These forums allow entrepreneurs to share knowledge, discuss barriers, and connect with industry leaders.
- Visibility and Promotion: Member companies are featured in the FemTech Canada website directory and are promoted through the organization's social media channels, amplifying their brand and increasing their visibility to potential investors and partners.
For Industry Partners and Investors
FemTech Canada provides a structured way for established organizations, VCs, and corporations to engage with and support the Femtech ecosystem:
- Strategic Partnerships: The company offers tiered partnership models (Advocate, Catalyst, and Visionary). These partnerships allow organizations to gain brand visibility, collaborate on the design and delivery of programs, or join the advisory board to help shape the strategic direction of Canada's Femtech sector.
- Ecosystem Access: For investors and industry leaders, FemTech Canada serves as a central hub to discover, vet, and connect with a curated pipeline of innovative Canadian Femtech startups.
Key Programs and Initiatives
The most significant and tangible product offered by FemTech Canada is its commercialization program.
wHealth MedPath (Women's Health Medical Pathway): This is FemTech Canada's flagship commercialization program, designed to help startups accelerate their journey from a viable prototype to market-readiness. Supported in part by the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP), the program provides expert-driven support and project-based services. It operates in two levels:
- Level 1: Provides a product market assessment conducted by a network of healthcare professionals and investment groups to validate the innovation's market potential, clinical effectiveness, and regulatory considerations.
- Level 2: Connects applicants with Contract Research Organizations (CROs) or Contract Design and Manufacturing Organizations (CDMOs) to execute a specific commercialization project. This includes services like product design, testing, regulatory planning, and clinical study design.
Advocacy and Education: A core part of FemTech Canada's work is advocating for systemic change. This includes public education to raise awareness of the Femtech sector and its economic potential. The organization actively lobbies for government support, such as its advocacy for a $100 million federal investment in women's health and Femtech innovation.
