Data Storage Technology

Technology Overview

AI runs on data, and data has to live somewhere. That makes storage one of the most strategic layers in computing today. Enterprises are racing to feed GPU clusters, govern sprawling unstructured file estates and recover quickly from ransomware, all while flash and memory prices swing. This ebook tracks the companies building that foundation, from DRAM, HBM and NAND makers to all-flash array vendors, server builders and makers of NAS and RAID hardware.

The range is broad. Software-defined object and file platforms, S3-compatible storage and hybrid cloud file systems sit alongside backup, archiving and cyber-resilience specialists. Cloud data warehouses and lakehouse tools turn stored data into analytics and AI context. Decentralized networks spread encrypted data across independent hosts. Long-horizon archival media is moving out of the lab, including DNA, laser-etched glass, ceramic, holographic and even orbital storage. From hyperscale AI factories to SMB backup appliances, these are the companies deciding how the world's data is kept, protected and put to work.

Current Products and News

  • Nasuni announced its acquisition of DryvIQ on August 27, 2026, adding content intelligence and governance to classify, secure and activate unstructured data for AI. It follows the company's earlier 2026 purchase of Resilio and a partnership with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
  • Veeam Software announced a new investment round that values the company at $15 billion. It also launched the DataAI Command Platform in May 2026 and was named a Gartner Magic Quadrant Leader for Backup & Data Protection Platforms for the 10th consecutive time.
  • Pure Storage, Inc has rebranded as Everpure. On September 30, 2026 it unveiled new data management capabilities for production AI at scale, after outlining a long-term growth outlook built on four strategic growth vectors.
  • SuperMicro Computer Inc is now shipping NVIDIA Vera Rubin NVL72 racks. Its DCBBS supports the full liquid-cooling stack, with blueprints that scale from 5 MW to gigawatt deployments.
  • Minio introduced AIStor Memory, which provides long-term memory for AI agents, and MemKV, a shared context store for GPU inference. It was also named Databricks ISV Storage Partner of the Year.
  • WEKA (WekaIO) unveiled WEKApod 3 on July 21, 2026, billed as the world's densest AI storage and memory system for agentic workloads. A Backblaze partnership announced September 9 targets data management across the AI lifecycle.
  • Backblaze announced a multi-exabyte storage agreement with CoreWeave, alongside its WEKA collaboration and second-quarter 2026 results.
  • CTERA Networks, Inc. launched an AI-assisted data archiving solution on September 16, 2026, and introduced Forward Deployed Engineering on October 1. Its research found that only 4.4% of enterprise storage is actively used.
